Magik Hero Guide in Marvel Rivals

TorrentgameMagik, a less frequently seen X-Men member, is a bruiser-type hero in Marvel Rivals. While her movement is slightly slower than other melee heroes like Wolverine and Spider-Man, her attacks are far more powerful. Magik uses her sword and Limbo portals to deplete most of her enemies’ health bar, while sustaining herself with health bonuses thanks to her passive ability.

Despite the many duelists available in the Marvel Rivals hero roster, Magik’s abilities make her an excellent choice for those who prefer direct combat with their opponents.

Magik Summary

Magik is a melee attacker who uses a large sword to deal significant damage to enemies. Although not as fast as other melee users in Marvel Rivals, Magik has several movement abilities. Her dash can knock enemies down and give an opportunity for a heavy sword strike. Stepping Discs provides a brief invincibility window and allows Magik to use one of two abilities after exiting the portal.

Her passive ability converts any damage taken into health bonuses, making it crucial to keep attacking in close combat to survive. While her ultimate ability isn’t flashy, it enhances all her normal abilities, allowing Magik to dominate the enemy team in a short amount of time. Magik doesn’t have many escape strategies in terms of movement, so continuing to attack is vital for staying alive.

Magik’s Abilities and Team-Up

  • Soulsword: Strike forward with the Soulsword.
  • Stepping Discs: Teleport in the direction of movement through the Stepping Disc portal. Become invisible while teleporting.
  • Umbral Incursion: Dash forward and launch the enemy into the air.
  • Eldritch Whirl: After using Stepping Discs, spin while swinging the Soulsword.
  • Magik Slash: Attack forward with an air slash.
  • Demon’s Rage: After using Stepping Discs, summon a Limbo demon to attack enemies.
  • Darkchild (Ultimate): Transform into Darkchild, enhancing all abilities.
  • Limbo’s Might (Passive): Converts enemy damage into health bonuses for Magik.
  • Disc Master (Team-Up with Black Panther and Psylocke): When Magik is on the field, Black Panther and Psylocke gain access to Limbo, retreat to their previous position, and regain health.

Don’t Bring Firearms to a Swordfight

Magik’s greatest weakness is also her greatest strength—her close combat abilities. From a distance, you’ll struggle against heroes with ranged attacks. However, once within sword strike range, the advantage turns in your favor. Since Magik gains health bonuses as she deals damage, once you’re close enough to land a sword strike, you’ll typically survive long enough to defeat the enemy, even if they deal significant damage.

If you’re struggling to close the gap without taking too much damage, use Magik Slash at range to deal substantial damage and gain health bonuses, giving you enough time to get into melee range.

Now You’re Thinking With Portals

Stepping Discs is your best friend in combat as it provides a brief window of invincibility. Both exit abilities, Eldritch Whirl and Demon’s Rage, deal significant damage, allowing you to gain health bonuses after exiting. Since Magik has two Stepping Discs charges, use one at the start of the fight to deal damage and save the second charge to avoid any big attacks that might come your way.

As Magik needs to get close to deal damage, the enemy team will often try to focus on you if you disrupt them too much. You can dodge large attacks with the second charge and use your exit abilities to finish off anyone with low health.

Darkchild

Darkchild is a somewhat peculiar ultimate ability as it doesn’t change much in terms of how you play Magik. It doesn’t modify many abilities, other than enhancing all your abilities. The extra damage comes as a small attack after the main strike, so you can’t rely on a single swing to take out the enemy. Instead, focus on using Stepping Discs for invincibility and continue dealing damage to earn health bonuses.

One thing to note is that Magik moves and attacks a bit slower in this form, but if you focus on defeating enemies one by one, you can rack up knockouts during its duration.
