It’s symbolic of the company’s superior design skills: it’s stuck in a cycle of being curved pretty much the same way it was last year and the year before.
The aluminum construction of the Razer Blade 15 In Laptop remains impressive to look at and use. And yes, unlike some of the gaming laptops we’ve reviewed recently, it has a webcam.
But the effect it creates is getting old, and Razer still hasn’t ironed out all the kinks that have come from the design’s debut in 2018.
It’s a fingerprint and smudge magnet, something a laptop starting at $1,699.99 lacks. Using a biometric login method is confusing. You will be prompted for a password or PIN every time you log in.

In terms of design, it’s no longer as far ahead as Razer might hope. Some competing machines, like the Asus Zephyrus G15 and MSI GS66 Stealth, are thinner, lighter, and aggressively priced to compete with the Blade, and have the same (or more) features. 2021 could be the year other manufacturers catch up or beat it.

We’ll have to wait and see if Razer Blade 15 In Laptop next steps for this laptop are more exciting than what the 2021 entry-level model offers, but at least some of the improved specs inside make it feel a bit new.
The $2,199 top-end “Base” configuration I tested has an Nvidia RTX 3070 graphics chip, along with Razer’s first QHD display on a laptop.
These are new specs for 2021, and Razer is one of the first to ship a machine with both. A few weeks after this review, which was originally published in early March 2021.
Razer fixed a serious issue with how this Razer Blade 15 In Laptop Base handled switching between running the dedicated GPU or Nvidia Optimus, a technology that switches from integrated graphics to dedicated if necessary for efficiency, and performance.
It was set to Optimus by default, but when I switched to just using the RTX 3070, the screen went black and couldn’t be restored, requiring a full system wipe. Nvidia driver version 461.92 solved the problem.
This laptop performed as well as I expected for gaming given its RTX 3070 specific specs. The updated driver that fixes the display issue didn’t significantly affect gaming performance, and our 4K video export test wasn’t any better than before.
Razer Blade 15 In Laptop recently began publicly disclosing detailed specifications of its GPUs on its website (which can vary widely at the manufacturer’s discretion), as Nvidia now requires.
The RTX 3070 graphics chip in this configuration has a maximum power consumption of 95 W with a clock frequency of 1290 MHz (upgradable to 1410 MHz).
Unsurprisingly, given the thin build of this laptop, the GPU can’t run wild compared to the MSI GP66 Leopard. But that doesn’t mean he can’t play.

The keyboard layout was updated last year and is one of the few visible improvements Razer has made to this laptop.
Also running at the highest settings with ray-traced shadows set to ultra, averaged 46fps. I wanted to try a few games easily, but unfortunately I ran out of space on the 512GB SSD that comes by default with the base Blade 15. Of course.

With all the graphics tricks set to ultra, it ran at an average of 71 fps.
Razer Blade 15 In Laptop Base performs marginally worse than the newer Asus Zephyrus G15, which also has a QHD display and a slightly more powerful RTX 3070 (same clock speed but with a higher power ceiling of 100W).
In real-world use, you might find the Asus laptop does a few extra fps better than we did. Otherwise, performance should be similar.
In short, it’s almost equivalent to a smooth 60fps game at QHD, and in most cases, tweaking a graphics setting or two makes it possible.
Razer Blade 15 In Laptop Series With 4k & Refresh Rate 360hz
Interestingly, both laptops make it almost pointless to spend more money to get an RTX 3080 in a thin laptop.
These machines perform almost as well with QHD games as the MSI GS66 Stealth, which has a QHD display with an RTX 3080 clocked at 1245MHz and 95W and costs $2599. With a little research, you could really make money back.
As with my experience with MSI’s QHD display, I’m surprised Razer’s 165Hz QHD refresh rate panel is a first for a laptop because it’s such a good first attempt.
Viewing angles are wide, colors are rich yet accurate, and of course the increased pixel density looks fantastic.
The jump from 1080p to 1440p is noticeable when doing everyday tasks like browsing or playing games. Text is clearly visible, and viewing content or playing games at native QHD resolution provides a better experience than a 1080p panel.
I think it’s worth paying the premium, and the $200 extra that Razer charges is on par with other manufacturers.
Installing the latest driver from Nvidia (at the time of publication) allowed switching between Optimus and the dedicated graphics chip, but did not speed up exporting 4K video using Premiere Pro.
Our Adobe Premiere Pro test shows how fast the machine is. can export a five-minute, 33-second project from our Verge video team. On average, it took six minutes and 40 seconds, which is slow for this laptop’s spec level.
All smart devices now have to agree to a set of terms and conditions in order to use them, contracts that no one actually reads.
We cannot read and analyze each of these contracts. But we start counting exactly how many times you have to hit “accept” to use the devices when we review them, because those are the deals most people don’t read and certainly can’t agree to.
Razer Blade 15 In Laptop Advanced (early 2021) Review: Now With A 360 Hz Screen
If you’ve used any of Razer’s Blade laptops over the past few years, you’ve basically used them all. If not, you’re in for a keyboard and trackpad that are some of the best around.
The keyboard has backlit keys, and you can customize the color or pattern of its lighting to be as whimsical or subtle as you like.
Razer Blade 15 In Laptop fixed the problematic directional pad layout from last year’s model, so the layout is as perfect for my 9-to-5 workflow as it is for gaming.
Unlike every other Razer Blade 15 In Laptop currently makes, this one doesn’t have a Windows Hello-enabled IR webcam or other biometric login method.
It’s a disappointing omission, but unfortunately not a new one. Our June 2018 review criticized this year’s Blade 15 for the same thing, noting that the power button, which looks like (and should be) a fingerprint reader, isn’t.
The port layout should be fine for most people, but it’s one of the main areas where this base model differs from the more expensive Razer Blade 15 In Laptop Advanced.
Both share a Thunderbolt 3 port and an HDMI 2.1 port (capable of up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second).
In addition, Ethernet is exclusive to the base configurations, while the advanced models have plenty of exclusive ports and features, including a UHS-III full-size SD card reader, Windows Hello IR webcam, up to 20V via USB. C, as well as Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E.
I’d love to swap out the Ethernet port for an SD card reader in the base, but getting one on a Razer 15-inch gaming laptop pushes the cost up to $2,499 and you lose the Ethernet port.
The strategy of splitting ports based on model cost is outdated and misplaced considering that this machine is almost as capable for creators and gamers as the upgraded model.
The last thing I’ll mention is the heating and cooling, which Razer has had a bit of trouble with in previous models.
It also gets hot during the game, but doesn’t seem much worse than before. It also didn’t cross my threshold for what I’d consider a noisy laptop, even under heavy load.
In addition, its 65 Wh battery can last for about six hours. That’s Razer Blade 15 In Laptop longevity claim, and my experience lives up to it in battery saver mode.
The Blade 15 is a competent and well-designed gaming laptop that buyers will love for many reasons. This particular configuration is notable as the first Base to feature a lush QHD display, and with it, the RTX 3070 performs well for both gaming and productivity. to
